Interviews

     In freshman seminar, we were required to do a general research project. The project followed a general research question that mentioned resolving a human social problem. knowing this, I decided that interviewing the Sociology professors would be the best primary source. Dr. King referred me to a few ideal professors that she thought could provide me with decent interviews. The first professor she mentioned was Dr. Reever and then Dr. Terry Adams-Fuller. She also mentioned a few TA's but they happened to be harder to catch than the professors. Trying to schedule interviews, I actually attended the faculty's luncheon. While there, I asked every professor if they were available for an interview. By chance, I ran into Dr. Terry Adams-Fuller. She told me that I could meet her in her office Friday. Dr. Adams-Fuller's office was in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology located in Frederick Douglass Hall, on the second floor. When I finally found her correct office, I entered the office and sat in front of her large desk as she greeted me. I promptly began the interview because I didn't want to waste any time. I basically asked her questions about the problems in the African-American community and if she was aware of the youth's situation. She answered every question immediately and felt rather comfortable discussing the topic. Before the interview was over, Dr. Adams-Fuller recommended that I consider using Byron Pitts' novel Stepping Out on Nothing as a reference. He happened to experience a troublesome childhood but managed to persevere. Overall, the interviews went well and only took about seven minutes on average.
